Obama Elected President!

Obama was elected president of the United States at 11pm on 11/04/2008. This I feel is great news since I voted for him myself. I feel his campaign was well run, while both McCain and Obama had demonstrated positives and negatives for this country, I personally feel Obama would be much better serving the middle class residents (like myself), as well as get our country out of the growing deficit. There are many other reasons I chose Obama in my vote, but I am not going to go deeply into politics. I am just happy to announce its now official.

For those of you who voted for McCain, I cannot say anything bad. He also ran a good campaign and he had many great ideas to improve the country. I am not trying to start a war, you can post your comments here or in the forums but keep it clean.

Make Halloween Safe & Fun

On behalf of the dedicated staff of JWN Media I would like to wish you and your family a safe and happy halloween. Ensure you check all your childrens candy before allowing them to eat it, if going out at night, bring a flashlight and UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES ALLOW YOUR CHILDREN TO EAT GOLD COIN CANDY! This candy contains chemicals that can make your child ill or even cause death. Currently, reports of affected candy of the foil wrapped coins from Mexico and China can be found all around the internet. While this may be a hoax its better to be safe than sorry. Please simply discard any candy you are not too sure of.

Unexpected Server Outtages!

We experienced a batch of unexpected downtime today, none of which we had direct control over. Below is a listing of this downtime and the reasons behind the outtages.

2:15am - 4:36am
A very powerful DOS attack was made on the "Core" router entering our datacenter, this attack caused our website as well as the websites and servers of everyone else in our Holly datacenter to intermittently go offline during the time listed above. This issue was resolved as quickly as possible.

12:39pm - 7:22pm
The main provider of bandwidth to our datacenter had an equipment failure. Turns out our network is located on this provider and we too use them as our primary ISP. We had no control at all over this event as it was a problem at the end of the ISP itself.

We are looking into hosting our network in 2 seperate datacenters for redundency and to ensure problems like these do not occur again and cripple JWN Media and our clients websites.

Client Management System Integration Complete!

We have just completed integrating the new Client System (Billing System) into our website. Upon visiting the new client management system you will notice our images displayed as well as a live help box so clients can request help from a member of staff from anywhere within this new system. We hope these new additions help to make our services easier to use.

Advertising On Free Hosting

We are thinking of whether to place forced advertisements on our free hosting accounts to help generate extra income to cost the increasing costs of keeping our free hosting service online. If these ads are implemented free clients will start seeing forced advertisements on their web pages by the beginning of next month. If you would like to suggest alternate means of collecting revenue from free clients please post your comments below.

Email Problems Solved!

We were having problems with email not getting out on both JWN1 and JWN2 since the huge move. I am happy to announce these problems have been fixed. It seems that when JWN2 was put online I forgot to add a Reverse DNS entry so email to over protective email servers like MSN/AOL/Hotmail and a few others were simply being rejected. Now JWN2 has JWN2.Jaywebdesigns.com as a DNS entry and email is now being routed to all email servers across the internet correctly.

Upon adding a reverse DNS entry to JWN2 we noted another problem with email from JWN1. Since the reverse DNS address was conflicting with our other servers. The reverse DNS address for JWN1 used to be mail.jaywebdesigns.com, as most of our clients know their MX records contain mail.domain.com as the address to send and recieve their email. Because of this email to jaywebdesigns.com was being routed to JWN1 and then deleted. This posed as a problem for our website and for any website we are hosting on JWN2 with a subdomain such as user.jaywebdesigns.com. To correct this error we changed the reverse DNS entry on JWN1 to Jaywebdesigns.com.

Once again, all email is functioning as it should. Sorry for the problems this may have caused.

Added New Music

I have just completed adding some new tracks to our radio station as well as removing some of our existing tracks. Now that the server move is complete I will be adding alot of new tracks to our station to ensure we are playing only the hits!

Server Relocation Completed

We have finished the relocation of all paid websites including the move of our corporate website jwnmedia.com/jaywebdesigns.com to the much newer and faster JWN2 server.

Surprisingly since there were NO PROBLEMS during this move we finished it 2 days sooner than expected! It seems the new DNS has also updated on many of the DNS servers across the internet, because of this free and paid user websites started appearing online within 20 minutes of the move!

Free clients,
your websites were left on JWN1 along with our Shoutcast services, with the removal of the 360+ paid websites that were also located on that server, and with a few system tweaks you should notice a fairly substantial increase in server speeds and page load times.

Shoutcast Users,
You can now log into the new shoutcast control panel located at http://radio.jaywebdesigns.com, you will also notice if trying to go to the old address jaywebdesigns.com/radio we have put up a forwarding page that will get you to the right place. We had a few problems with our shoutcast service, and would have been completed with this move by 5PM (EST) if these problems did not arise, however now everything is working as it should.

Server Moves

JWN Media will be performing some major system maintenence from Friday, September 26 2008 to Monday, September 29 2008. During this time all paid website hosting accounts will be moved from this server (JWN1) to our faster, more stable server (JWN2). This will speed up access times for all our paid clients as well as reduce loads on this server thus making the server faster and more stable for you, our free clients. This move is scheduled to begin at midnight tonight (September 26, 2008) and be complete on midnight tomorrow night (September 27, 2008) at which time we will backup all free users accounts to get them ready to be put back on this server (JWN1) after some very heavy and much needed cleaning. After all free user accounts are backed up we will move our main website jwnmedia.com and jaywebdesigns.com to JWN2 and format this server. Once the format is complete we will reinstall all services and start restoring all free user hosting accounts. In the case of a corrupted backup WE ENCOURAGE ALL FREE USERS TO BACKUP THEIR OWN ACCOUNTS & STORE THESE BACKUPS ON THEIR OWN COMPUTERS.

Total downtime is expected to be 1 - 3 days and will depend heavly on how long it takes the new DNS information to propigate.
